Richmond, VA (AHN) - In keeping up with the boom of the Blu-ray technology, consumer electronics store Circuit City announced that they are selling their stocks of HD DVD formats for half the original price. The move is seen as an attempt for the chain to dispense of all the leftover supplies of the now-obsolete format, in order to make way for Blu-ray products. The sale, according to Punch Jump, came with the store's advertisement of a $99.99 HD DVD player. Other retail electronic stores have visibly shifted their preference to the newer Blu-ray, in the process trying to sell out all the remaining HD DVD technology once sought for by consumers. Stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Netflix immediately avowed their support for the Blu-ray, upon HD DVD maker Toshiba's February announcement that they would bow out of the heated competition with Sony's Blu-ray. In compensation, Best Buy announced this month that they were offering $10 million worth of gift cards to customers who had bought HD DVD electronics. TG Daily reported that whether or not consumers have actually responded to the price cuts and other bargains for HD DVDs is yet to be seen.
