Philadelphia, PA (AHN) - Cable giant Comcast and file-sharing service BitTorrent are in talks to cooperate on ways to allow the file-swapping technology work better on the Internet service provider's broadband network.

As part of the talks, Comcast said it will change how to penalizes Internet users. Instead of interfering with users based on the application (such as file-sharing), the Philadelphia-based cable company said it will step in depending on the amount of usage.

In turn, BitTorrent said it will update its file-sharing service to be more compatible with Comcast.

The discussions are a change from the adversarial relationship that sprang from reports that Comcast was interfering with file-sharing. The debate eventual caught the attention of the federal government, including the FCC.
