Mountain View, CA (AHN) - Douglas Merrill, Google's Chief Information Officer, is set to become EMI Music's president of digital operations. EMI, like other recording companies, is scrambling to replace dwindling CD sales with new digital ventures. After being acquired in 2007 for $6 billion from venture capital firm Terra Firma Capital Partners, EMI has streamlined various operations. The addition of Merrill may signal the music company intends to centralize its digital plans, as well. The news of Merrill's departure from Google was originally reported by the TechCrunch.com blog.
