New York, NY (AHN) - U.S. videogame sales rose 68 percent in April, boosted by record demand for the violent Grand Theft Auto IV, produced by Take-Two Interactive Software. While Grand Theft Auto IV sold 2.85 million units in North America last month, sales declined of other videogame titles and videogame consoles, according to market researcher NPD Group. The Nintendo Wii, although still leading Microsoft and Sony, saw sales fall slightly in April. Microsoft's Xbox 360 dropped 28 percent while Sony's PlayStation 3 fell 27 percent. The sales drop by Microsoft and Sony came unexpected since the fast-selling Grand Theft Auto IV was only available for those two game consoles. Although Nintendo again won the console wars, the Japanese company didn't do so well with videogame software, its Super Smash Bros. Brawl crashing from 2.7 million sales in March to 326,000 sales in April.
