Los Gatos, CA (AHN) - The website of online video rental store Netflix experienced an outage Monday, complicating the lineup of movies for delivery.

The malfunction occurred at around 7 a.m., forcing the company to miss a deadline for shipment of movies scheduled for a Monday delivery to customers.

A spokesperson for the company refused to mention the cause of the technical glitch, only mentioning that the outage affected their delivery schedules.

"It's very rare," said Steve Swassey, according to PC World. He explained that the incident has not happened to the company in a long time.

"Out engineers have been feverishly working on repairing the problem all morning," he said. "It was an unanticipated, unplanned outage, and we apologize to our customers."

Swassey also mentioned that the outage did not affect their company customer data, therefore making the information regarding the delayed rentals intact.

"We did send some shipments, but most of them will go out on Tuesday," he said.

News.com reported that the site outage was considered the second biggest one in the company's history, after an 18-hour downtime back in July. That outage, however, did not affect the company's shipping systems.

A notice was posted on the company's website during the more recent downtime, informing their customers that despite the glitch, 'distribution centers are still sending and receiving DVDs."

The note was taken down a few hours after.
