Sunnyvale, CA (AHN) - Yahoo and security vendor McAfee are joining to offer Internet users more confidence when clicking links on the No. 2 search engine. As part of the tie-up, Yahoo users will see a red exclamation warning when McAfee considers a link to be adware, malware or spam. Along with warnings, Yahoo won't display links for sites McAfee feels are malicious. The new security feature uses technology available in McAfee's SiteAdvisor software that attempts to identify safe and dangerous Internet sites. The move is seen as a way for Yahoo to attract more users to its search engine, which has 21 percent of the market versus 61 percent for rival Google. On Monday, Yahoo's stock plummeted as investors reacted to news Microsoft had withdrawn its $47.5 billion takeover offer.
