1)   ISO Gives Nod To Microsoft's OOXML
Software giant Microsoft Corp. has received the global standard certification it's been after for its open document format from the International Standardization Organization and International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC). The Geneva-based ISO/IEC has yet to officially announce the result of the final round of voting on the Office Open XML. However, documents obtained by the Intellectual Property Watch indicated that 86 percent of the national standardization bodies have approved the default file format for Microsoft Office 2007.

2)   Pakistan Will Allow Branchless Banking Over Mobile Phones
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the country's central bank, on Tuesday issued guidelines allowing branchless banking aiming to encourage innovation and increase the nation's outreach on the Internet. Branchless banking will allow firms to offer services in a cost effective manner, according to a new set of regulations which specify minimum standards for data and network security, customer protection and risk management.

Technology is helping catch philandering government officials. If disgraced New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was caught having an affair with a hooker due to a wiretap, Finnish Foreign Minister Illkka Kanerva was sacked from office Tuesday after 200 text messages were published.

5)   Dell To Close Texas Plant, Cutting About 900 Jobs
PC maker Dell said Monday it will close one of its two Texas manufacturing site, cutting about 900 jobs. Dell also said it is considering selling a financial unit said to be worth around $1 billion.

6)   Report: Microsoft Won't Raise Bit For Yahoo
Microsoft is reportedly "biding its time" and unwilling to up the ante in its bid to acquire Yahoo. The move is seen as a tactic to get Yahoo back to the bargaining table. On Feb. 10, Yahoo rejected Microsoft's $44 billion offer as undervaluing the Internet company.

9)   Circuit City Slashes HD DVD Prices In Half
In keeping up with the boom of the Blu-ray technology, consumer electronics store Circuit City announced that they are selling their stocks of HD DVD formats for half the original price. The move is seen as an attempt for the chain to dispense of all the leftover supplies of the now-obsolete format, in order to make way for Blu-ray products.

10)   Apple Slapped With Lawsuit For iMac Monitors
Tech magnate Apple Inc. was served a class-action lawsuit Monday that accused the company of deceptive marketing of its 20-inch iMac. According to the plaintiffs, Apple intentionally exaggerated on the capabilities of the monitor, which it said could display "millions of colors". The lawsuit stated that the monitors could actually only display 262,144 colors.
